    Malik reported: He heard Luqman Al-Hakeem making his will and enjoining upon his son, saying, “O my son, sit with learned men and keep close to them. Allah gives life to the hearts with the light of wisdom just as He gives life to the death earth with rain from the sky.”

    Malik reported: He heard someone say to Luqman, “What has brought to you what we see now?” meaning his virtue. He said, “Truthful speech, fulfilling the trust and leaving what does not concern me.”

    Abdullah reported: When the verse was revealed, “Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrong,” (6:82) we said, “O Messenger of Allah, who among us has not mixed his faith with wrong?” The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “The meaning is not what you said. They do not mix their faith with the injustice of idolatry. Have you not listened to the saying of Luqman: O my son, do not associate partners with Allah, for verily, idolatry is a tremendous injustice.” (31:13)
