As per Ibn Ishaq, close to 20 Christians from Abyssinia traveled to Mecca to meet Sayyiduna Rasoolullah ļ·ŗ when they heard that He ļ·ŗ claimed prophet hood. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah ļ·ŗ was in the sanctuary of the Kaba when the group arrived in Mecca.

While other leaders of the Quraish were conducting their meeting there, this group from Abyssinia asked several questions to Rasoolullah ļ·ŗ while remaining seated in one of the portions of the haram. When all of their doubts were clarified, Rasoolullah ļ·ŗ recited few verses from the Holy Quran. They listened to Him ļ·ŗ and wept. Rasoolullah ļ·ŗ invited them towards Islam and they accepted, recognizing the qualities of Rasoolullah ļ·ŗ which were mentioned in their holy scriptures.

When they started returning, Abu Jahl met them on the way and stopped their caravan. He cursed them by calling them fools and alleging them for leaving their religion and betraying their people. The group was wise enough. They responded: "Peace be with you. We don't want to compete with you in ignorance. We will be steadfast on our decision, you be on your's. We've not opted for carelessness in betterment for ourselves (by accepting Islam)."

It is also narrated that the verses of Quran from Surah Al-Qasas (chapter 28), verses 52 to 55 were revealed in the same context. The translation of the verses are as below:

52. Those whom We gave the bookbefore this, they believe in this (Quran as well in the continuiation of the same guidance)

53. And when the Quran is recited to them, they say: 'We believe in it; verily, it is the truth from our Lord. Infact, we'd become Muslims even before this.'

54. It is these people who will be given their reward twice because they remained steadfast and fended off evil with good, and spent in Our way out of the bounty We bestowed upon them.

55. And when they hear anything absurd, they turn away from it and say: 'For us our deeds and for you are your deeds.Peace be upon you! We do not want to adopt the mentality and conduct of the ignorant.'
