Why do you forbid yourself

Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would spend time with his wife Zainab bint Jahsh and he would drink a concoction of honey. Hafsa and I agreed that whomever the Prophet visited first, we would say, “I notice a strong odor of mimosa gum on you.” The Prophet visited one of them and she said this to him, so the Prophet said, “I have taken a honey drink at Zainab’s house and I will not do it again.” The verse was revealed, “Why do you forbid yourself from what Allah has made lawful for you?” (66:1) And the verse, “If you two repent,” (66:4) refers to Aisha and Hafsa. And the verse, “When the Prophet confided to one of his wives,” (66:3) refers to his drinking honey.

عن عائشة أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَمْكُثُ عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ فَيَشْرَبُ عِنْدَهَا عَسَلًا قَالَتْ فَتَوَاطَيْتُ أَنَا وَحَفْصَةُ أَنَّ أَيَّتَنَا مَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلْتَقُلْ إِنِّي أَجِدُ مِنْكَ رِيحَ مَغَافِيرَ أَكَلْتَ مَغَافِيرَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى إِحْدَاهُمَا فَقَالَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ بَلْ شَرِبْتُ عَسَلًا عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ وَلَنْ أَعُودَ لَهُ فَنَزَلَ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ إِنْ تَتُوبَا لِعَائِشَةَ وَحَفْصَةَ وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ النَّبِيُّ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِهِ حَدِيثًا لِقَوْلِهِ بَلْ شَرِبْتُ عَسَلًا
